Magna Xota 6-4 Wanapix: the comeback comes too late for Anaitasuna

First team/4 MIN READ

The Zaragoza team lost 6-4 to Magna Xota after trailing 4-1 at halftime. Their improvement in the second half wasn't enough, and the team remains at the bottom of the table with just one point.

Wanapix Sala 10 missed a chance to turn their fortunes around at Anaitasuna. Jorge Palos' team fell 6-4 to a Magna Xota side still searching for their first win and now sit at the bottom of the table with just one point after six matches. The Zaragoza-based team rallied after the break and even pulled within a goal in the final stages, but ultimately paid the price for conceding too many chances in the first half.

The match began evenly, with chances for both teams. Wanapix quickly found Asier Llamas in fine form, while Xota capitalized on their opportunities to take the lead. Ion Cerviño opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and just a minute later, Marc Campàs made it 2-0 after a defensive lapse by the visitors.

They were two tough blows to take. Before Wanapix could regroup, they conceded a third, scored by Ion in the 13th minute. Raúl López responded in the same minute, giving Zaragoza some breathing room, but the team couldn't stem the tide of the home side's attack. In the 17th minute, Ion completed his hat trick, making it 4-1 at halftime.

Wanapix had created chances, but lacked finishing in front of goal and composure in front of goal. Asier Llamas' saves explained part of the difference; the visitors' mistakes, too. They needed to improve significantly to get back into the game.

The second half brought a more convincing response. Palos' team took the game to the opposition's half, had more continuity in attack, and reduced the deficit in the 26th minute. Xuxu converted a shot from Celio Coque to make it 4-2.

There were only minutes left to try. Wanapix continued searching for the Navarre goal, but once again he ran into Asier Llamas, who kept his team in the game when Zaragoza were pressing hardest. With five minutes remaining, Palos opted for the goalkeeper-player tactic.

The final moments provided much of the excitement of the match. In the 37th minute, Richi Felipe was sent off for holding an opponent and denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. This action also resulted in Wanapix's sixth foul, and Marc Campàs converted the resulting penalty to make it 5-2.

Even so, the visitors kept their hopes alive. Raúl López scored to make it 5-3 and Celio Coque converted a penalty to put them 5-4, both in the 37th minute. The tie was just one goal away, but in the 38th minute, a Wanapix turnover allowed Ion to easily score the decisive 6-4, his fourth goal of the afternoon.

The reaction was commendable, although it wasn't enough to make up for what they conceded before halftime. Wanapix needed a more complete performance against a direct rival and returns from Pamplona with a defeat that leaves them in last place. The second half showed signs of improvement that they need to build on; their league position demands that they start strong from the beginning.
